Meet the owner

The Skinroom was founded by me, the company owner and fully certified practitioner Jat Sahota in Oldbury, Birmingham. Like many people I chose to try out laser hair removal and began to research the various types of treatments available. I had many consultations and was left confused with the jargon and inconsistent information I came across.

I decided to learn as much as there was to know about laser hair removal and continue to educate myself today. I now enjoy educating my clients and empowering them with this information, so they are fully informed about their specific treatment.

Know Your Laser

Not All Lasers Were Created Equal

With so many different types of laser machines on the market, it is difficult to fully understand the quality of treatment you are receiving. Not all lasers have the same level of effectiveness at reducing hair growth and different lasers work well on different skin tones. Here’s a quick look at some of the machines available:

Ruby Laser - This was the first laser machine created for laser hair removal. Only really good for dark hair on light skin tones. IPL - Intense Pulse Light uses a broader spectrum compared to laser light so can target a larger area. However it is less effective at reducing hair growth than traditional lasers.

Alexandrite laser - A long beam laser which is highly effective for permanent hair removal. Best results are seen on lighter skin tones with darker coloured hair.

Nd:YAG laser - This laser can be successfully used for darker skin tones as it emits a very deep penetrating infra red light. However it is not ideal for for treating fine hairs.

Diode laser - Utilises a broad spectrum of light so it can be used on all skin types. However it is less powerful than the Alexandrite laser and not as safe on dark skin tones as the Nd:YAG laser.

Many clinics claim to use the best laser machines available so it is important to research what machine they are using and whether it will prove effective for you.

What laser is used at The Skinroom?

At The Skinroom we use the Cynosure Elite laser which we believe is the best laser hair removal machine currently available. This machines incorporates two types of lasers, the Alexandrite and the Nd:YAG laser, which makes it effective for both fair and dark skin tones.
